May 2020 sees the 200th anniversary of the birth of the world's most famous nurse, the only woman in history immediately recognised by just her Christian name, Florence. The musical drama is a celebration of the only woman to receive The Order of Merit from Queen Victoria through song and poetry.
The project, written and performed by Louise Jordan and Richard Digance, is linked around the accounts and personal letters written by Florence Nightingale, the originals of which were made available to our creators at The Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre Heritage Centre.
The project, launched at Florence's graveside at St Margaret's Church encompasses a musical theatrical touring production, community performances in hospitals, schools and colleges, including the formation of The Nightingale Choir comprising of nurses, past and present from Salisbury where her nursing career began.
