Studland

Steeped in history and nature, Studland has been a popular place to visit since the 1900’s. The Bankes family, who also owned Kingston Lacy and Corfe Castle, used to spend their summers at what is now the Pig on the Beach Hotel. It was also a training ground during the Second World War, and you can still see Fort Henry, where Winston Churchill watched D-Day rehearsals.

The area is fantastic for exploring, walking, swimming, and watersports. You can paddle in the waves on the sandy beaches, or for the more adventurous, you can hire a kayak, pedalos, paddleboards, windsurfers, and even sailing dinghies. If it’s thrills and spills you want, then why not arrange a power boat ride.?

For those in need of sustenance, there are two cafes at Studland: the Middle Beach Café and the Knoll Beach Café, both with seating inside and out. They are the perfect pit stops for hungry walkers and weary children. Treat yourself to a good coffee, a hearty breakfast, sandwiches, or indulge in ice cream. There is also a fabulous variety of pubs and restaurants nearby if you fancy something more substantial.

If four-legged friends are your passion, then it’s a great place for dog walking and horse riding. Riders can bring their own horses with a permit, or you can arrange a fabulous beach ride with the nearby riding stable. If you feel safer on two wheels, then you can cycle around the Purbecks; it’s safe and quiet, and there are various routes around the area suitable for both keen cyclists and families.

With a beautiful, rugged coastline, white sandy beaches, and stunning views, it really is a special gem in our area.
