Beyond the Library Door Discovery Day

Library Discovery Day. Salisbury Cathedral.

About

A free day for everyone to come and discover more about two special, but little known, libraries: Salisbury Cathedral Library and Sarum College Library.

Beyond the Library Door is a new project to catalogue and clean our old and rare books. Find out about our collections of thousands of rare books dating back to the 15th century (we want to tell you about what we’ve discovered so far) and see our Library Preservation Volunteers in action cleaning and condition recording the books.

10:00-11:30 Beautiful Bindings and Wonderful Words - Show and Tell by the librarians and volunteers. Held in Salisbury Cathedral's North Transept.

12:00-13:00 and 15:00-16:00 Drop-in Book Cleaning Demonstrations at Sarum College. Come and chat to our Library Preservation Volunteers. There is more to cleaning a book than you might think!

13:00-16:00 Drop-in Library Open Afternoons and Displays at Sarum College Library and Salisbury Cathedral Library.

Be part of Salisbury Cathedral library! Have you always intended to write your own novel, dreamt up a title but never got round to writing it! Now is your opportunity to record your book title for posterity with yourself as the author in our traditional library card catalogue cabinet. Come along to the Cathedral drop in afternoon and catalogue your own book at the librarian’s desk - all ages welcome.

Beyond the Library Door is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Sackler Trust, The Pilgrim Trust and others.
