BMT Productions present The Sound of Music

A brand-new production of ‘The Sound of Music’ comes to Christchurch and you can sing along and come in costume!!

BMT Productions return to the Regent in Christchurch following their sell-out success with Anything Goes last year, with a brand new production of that all-time family favourite musical for the May Half Term, The Sound of Music.

Curtain up for the Sound of Music at the Regent will be from Wednesday 29 May – Saturday 1 June 7.30pm with 2.30pm Matinees on Thursday 30 May, Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June.

New for this production will be the designated Singalong Shows.  So if you have always wanted to give full vent to Climb Every Mountain, croon to Edelweiss or just pretend you are still 16 Going on 17, then do book for the two live singalong Sound of Music shows with BMT on Friday 31 May 7.30pm and Saturday 1 June 2.30pm only

BMT are also running a ‘best dressed’ competition at each evening performance with special prizes. So don your habits and your lederhosen and get ready for a fantastic evening of singing and dancing

The Sound of Music is Rogers & Hammerstein’s last and most popular collaboration and is guaranteed to have some of everyone’s Favourite Things!

The Sound of Music opened on Broadway in 1959 with Mary Martin in the lead role and the show matched its critical acclaim by winning five Tony awards, including Best Musical.

Following its 1961 West End debut, Julie Andrews made the show her own with the 1965 cult classic film of The Sound of Music, which won five Oscars.

Set in Austria in the late 1930s, the country has succumbed to the Nazi yoke.  A postulant nun, Maria, is sent by her Abbess to care for the seven children of the widower, Captain Von Trapp, an Austrian naval officer.

Soon, Maria has not only fallen in love with her young charges, who she teaches to sing but also with their father.

The Captain is initially unaware of her true feelings but when the time comes for them to flee the Nazis, he realises how much he needs and loves Maria.  Soon after their marriage, the family heads over the Alps to neutral Switzerland.

This thrilling, inspirational and romantic musical boasts one of Broadway’s most soaring scores with hits like:  Climb Every Mountain, My Favourite Things, Maria, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and Edelweiss.

This truly is the perfect family outing for May Half-Term and BMT are offering special family tickets for all matinee performances for two adults and two children.  Why not bring the family along to see this toe tapping musical jam packed full of all everyone’s favourite songs.
