Shakespeare At Beaulieu

Shakespeare At Beaulieu

About

Castle Theatre Company, from the University of Durham, present one of Shakespeare’s most iconic and witty comedies, Twelfth Night. This classic tale of love and confusion is enjoyed worldwide and is great entertainment on a sunny July afternoon.

After a shipwreck, Viola is separated from her twin brother Sebastian, and disguising herself as a young boy becomes a messenger between the local duke Orsino and the wealthy heiress he loves, Olivia. As the two nobles begin to fall in love with this mysterious ‘boy’, the other members of Olivia’s household compete for her hand in marriage (and huge fortune!). Enter Sebastian, Viola’s long lost identical twin, and chaos quickly ensues...

For over 30 years Castle Theatre Company has taken its annual summer Shakespeare tour around the South of England and the USA, performing classic comedies on the lawns of stately homes, gardens and abbeys across these countries. Renowned for its high standard, Castle Theatre Company promises an afternoon of light-hearted family entertainment.

Castle Theatre Company is one of the oldest and most prestigious student theatre companies in Durham. While primarily affiliated with University College, we aim to offer extensive performance opportunities to students across the University. Besides productions of classical and modern plays, we hold events such as comedy nights, poetry evenings and workshops. Recent highlights include ‘A Murder is Announced’ in Durham Castle’s Great Hall and ‘Hamlet’ in Durham’s historic town hall.
