With less than two weeks until this year’s British Beach Polo Championships, Jodi Kidd visited Sandbanks to kick off the countdown to the south coast’s most renowned polo event.

Over the two days of July 8-9 there will be more action than ever on the temporary polo club that is set up on the glorious blue flag beach at Sandbanks.

There are four top teams competing for the title this year with some amazing action from the likes of Jamie Morrison, who has represented England on numerous occasions, Selby Williamson, Captain of South Africa Polo and Ricky Cooper the Welsh Team Captain at the Championships.

Sandpolo Ambassador, model and polo player, Jodie Kidd commented: "You simply cannot beat the polo at Sandbanks, it gathers some of the world’s top polo players together on a wonderful blue flag beach in July for some exceptional polo, a great party atmosphere and a fashionable crowd dancing to top DJ’s on the beach."

The event organisers are also delighted to announce a first at Sandbanks this year. They will be showcasing two exhibition matches from The Pony Club. This is where many top equestrian athletes learn their skills and polo is just one of the many disciplines The Pony Club supports and promotes. There will be younger players on rather smaller than usual ponies taking to the arena and getting a feel of what it’s like to play this ‘Sport of Kings’ in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Following on from last year’s success of The University Challenge match, spectators will also see Oxford University take on their arch rivals Oxford Brookes and Exeter to see who can take the champagne back to campus.

As always when there’s a break from the polo there will be International Women’s Beach Volleyball with England taking on Poland, and the classic Pony vs. 4x4 Charity race; this year in aid of The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

With a brand new site layout for all the guests to enjoy there will be many who stay on for the evening parties. Saturday night will be headlined by Radio One DJ Trevor Nelson and both nights feature an 80’s themed disco party running alongside the main entertainment for those who want to go back in time.

Johnny Wheeler, event director for Sandpolo said: "We can’t wait for the gates to open on the 8th of July. We are now in our 9th year and we know that our regular guests will love all the changes we’ve made this year. To those who are visiting for the first time be prepared to be amazed by the high adrenaline action on the polo arena. You can’t get closer to the polo ponies on any other surface."

Hospitality tickets £165.00, VIP start at £50, General admission starts at £25.00.
