About

The Regent invites those in isolation to create short films for new film festival to be screened this October

The Regent in Christchurch is currently closed along with all other venues in the UK but this hasn’t stopped the team from getting creative! We are pleased to announce our first film festival with the film content in our first category being created by users currently stuck indoors due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. We’re looking for families, groups of people or those in isolation to get creative right now and make short films whilst the country is out of commission. Our second category is Best New Film and is for more accomplished film makers with a recently made film they would like us to feature on our big screen.

Our festival will end with a glitzy film premiere of the best new work on our big screen as chosen by our volunteer judging panel this October with proceeds going to charity.

We are inviting entries in two categories –

General audience short film – We’re looking for families, groups of people or those in isolation to get creative right now and make short films whilst the country is out of commission. Your work can be based on any theme and can be connected to your current situation or be as far removed as you’d like! This is a short film category and your entry should be no longer than 10 minutes and no less than 90 seconds. Your work must be original and should not have been published or exhibited before. Note, your work must be made in accordance with safety rules regarding isolation and social distancing and you must have consent from all participants before filming and the entry must be submitted by somebody over the age of 18.

Best new film – We’re looking for a single and complete new film. This should be no more than 90 minutes ideally and could be suitable for any audience. It does not need to have been made recently but should be considered new work not yet in distribution. This category is for film makers aged 18 or over.

The prize –

On October 11th 2020 we will have a screening at the Regent Centre for the shortlisted Family Audience films and the winner of the Best Film category. The proceeds of this event will be split between the Regent Centre Development Fund and local charities in discussion with the winners of each category. The deadline for submissions is August 31st 2020
