Keyneston Mill

The Perfume Crop Fields

Creating fine fragrance in the heart of Dorset - from seed to bottle

The creative and experimental home of Parterre Fragrances, Keyneston Mill is a private botanic garden dedicated solely to aromatic and scented plants, with over 1500 varieties in a 50-acre estate. Here the key ingredients of Parterre luxury perfumes are grown, harvested and distilled.

Enjoy a walk around the gardens & fragrant crop fields, the river meadow and orchards. Take a Scented Garden Tour with peaks at what goes on behind the scenes and learn how plants are distilled to become essential oils. Discover more about perfume at one of our workshops or blend your very own fragrance. Relax over lunch in The Scented Botanist Bistro-Café, perhaps with a glass of ice-cool rosé.

The Gardens

The gardens blend visual arts with perfumery in this unique estate: The Padua Garden, floral and sweet scented, is modelled on the original 16th Century Venetian botanical garden; the Spice Garden, a striking design inspired by the artworks of Kandinsky, is reached via the Fougère Garden which is dedicated to ferns and cool vegetation. Meanwhile the modern Parterre Garden comprises 87 beds for aromatic plants, flowers and herbs and leads to the Citrus Collection.  Throughout you will find favourites and unknowns, unusual choices, experimentation.

‘Keyneston Mill – the Creative Home of Parterre’

Keyneston Mill is not only a botanic estate, but also offers visitors the opportunity to delve into the world of perfumery and specifically into the art of creating high quality essential oils.  New for 2019 is a blending workshop, a practical session where you can create your own custom fragrance. You’ll come away with a simple perfume that you’ll have designed and blended yourself! Other events include regular Open-Air Cinema showings and Indulgence Days combining yoga, a delicious lunch followed by a creative perfume making session. Continuing the creative and botanic theme, The Scented Botanist Bistro-Cafe offers delicious meals made with fresh, fragrant ingredients.  You can even book the Ultimate Afternoon Tea to celebrate a special occasion.  Parterre Fragrances are available for sale in our gift shop alongside a wider range of carefully curated gift products and books.
