From Botany to Bottle
The creative and experimental home of Parterre Fragrances, Keyneston Mill is the largest private botanic gardens in the country dedicated solely to aromatic and scented plants, with over 1,500 varieties in a 50-acre estate. Here the key ingredients of Parterre luxury perfumes are grown, harvested and distilled.
The Gardens
Explore 50 acres of beautiful grounds incorporating glorious Scented Gardens, River Meadow, Lost Orchard & Perfume Crop Fields.
The gardens blend visual arts with perfumery in this unique estate: The Padua Garden, floral and sweet scented, is modelled on the original 16th Century Venetian botanical garden; the Spice Garden, a striking design inspired by the artworks of Kandinsky, is reached via the Fougère Garden which is dedicated to ferns and cool vegetation. Meanwhile the modern Parterre Garden comprises 87 beds for aromatic plants, flowers and herbs and leads to the Citrus Collection. Throughout you will find favourites and unknowns, unusual choices, experimentation.
The Scented Botanist
The Scented Botanist bistro has a new lunch menu, socially distanced inside seating is now available and we are taking reservations. Alternatively, our picnics and takeaways are also available to enjoy in our bistro garden. Please, note that we are not taking outside table reservations. If you would like to enjoy your picnic in our river meadow, we will require you to purchase a garden entry ticket.
In the Gift Shop, Parterre Fragrances are available alongside a wider range of carefully curated gifts and books. Keyneston Mill also offers visitors the opportunity to delve into the world of perfumery and the art of creating high quality essential oils. There are talks, tours and workshops, including a practical session where you can create your own custom fragrance. Other events over winter include regular gardening sessions, cinema evenings and yoga mornings.
