The Blue Pool

About

Located between Wareham and Corfe Castle, the Blue Pool is an oasis of peace and beauty. Once a clay pit, the Pool changes colour constantly - sometimes green, sometimes turquoise as tiny particles of clay filter through the waters, depending upon the diffraction of the light.  Once inside the grounds you are surrounded by 20 acres of heath, woodland and gorse crossed by a network of sandy paths.  Steps lead down to the water’s edge and up to views of the Purbeck Hills.  Visitors can wander at will through leafy glades and secret nooks becoming a ‘Searcher and Finder’ looking for squirrels, fairy doors and much more whilst enjoying an imaginative stroll around the Pool.

There is a charming Tea House serving morning coffee, light lunches, snacks and cream teas with homemade scones.

The Gift Shop and Toy Shop are a treasure trove of unusual, intriguing, exciting gifts for all. From pocket money shoppers to treating yourself or finding that unique present for a friend.

The Museum tells the story of clay mining in the area from the 16th century.
The quality of Purbeck clay was well known to the Romans who had kilns in this area.  But with the arrival of tobacco from the New World the Purbeck Clay was in great demand by the makers of clay pipes throughout Britain.  By the 17th century the discovery that the extra fine white-firing clay from Purbeck was ideal for porcelain and pottery, led to the expansion of the industry suppling famous potters such as Josiah Wedgwood and Royal Dalton.

Since 2012 The Wareham Bears have taken up residence.  Enter the fascinating miniature world of teddy bears and see how they work, rest and play.

Come and enjoy a memorable family day out at the Blue Pool.
