Poole’s Pirate Invasion as Harry Paye Day Returns

Paye Day LogoAvast me harties!  Tis time for land lubbers to dig out yer eye patch, earring and cutlass for Poole’s annual celebration on 18 June, of its favourite pirate son Harry Paye.

Organised by the Pirates of Poole and supported by Poole Tourism, the popular shindig gets underway from 12 under the noonday sun with the Parade of Pirates along Poole Quay with the Mayor of Poole Cllr Xena Dion judging the Pirate Fancy Dress at 1pm.

Sponsored by Jenkins Marine and Hall & Woodhouse the charity event is part of Poole’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South events, where visitors can seecannon and musket displays followed by belly dancers or try their luck on the traditional Aunt Sally stall.  There’s also plenty for children with a fancy dress competition, rides, a teddy bear stall and face painting. 

Sample the finest grog along the quayside’s traditional, pubs, bars and restaurants and listen to a salty sea shanty or two at the two live music stages featuring local bands including Spiderpig, Lady Winwood’s Maggot link will open in new window and All Funked Up.

Events finish at 6pm and this year Harry Paye Daye is helping to raise money for local Poole charities Montacute School link will open in new window and Knoticat link will open in new window, a sailing charity providing trips for people with disabilities and their families.

Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of the Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “Harry Paye Day is a hugely popular event which people have really taken to their hearts.  Fancy dress is a must and its a great way to get involved, support local charities and have some fun celebrating Poole’s rich history.  Get into the spirit, practice your pirate speak and let your inner pirate loose!”

On the day Poole Quay will be closed to traffic from 9am and will re-open by 7pm.
