The UK's biggest and best weekly bike meet enjoyed another successful year on Poole Quay in 2009. "Coles Miller Dream Machines" creates a unique, exciting atmosphere as bikers and spectators enjoy a relaxed evening on Poole Quay. The event takes place every Tuesday evening from April to the end of September. The entire Quay is closed to all traffic, except bikes, with numbers at the event regularly in excess of 1,000 motorcycles.
Coles Miller Dream Machines is a self-funding event with a £1 entry charge per bike, per night, or £5 for a season armband. Any surplus income after costs is donated to local charities nominated by the volunteer Marshalls.
This year, for the first time, a donation has been made to plant trees in Hamworthy Park to help offset the carbon footprint of the Dream Machines Bike Night. The first tree to be planted will be an ornamental sycamore, Acer pseudoplatanus 'Atropurpureum', which aims be the first of many. Poole Tourism Events Manager, Anne Simpson, said: "This event is an important part of Summertime in the South, our annual events programme, with bikers travelling from far afield to enjoy the evening. We hope to be able to make Bike Night more sustainable by planting trees which will help to offset the carbon footprint in the future".
The next Coles Miller Dream Machines Bike Night will be on the first Tuesday in April.
