Christmas on the Quay - Friday 5 December

A real treat is in store this year, when Poole Quay becomes the focus for an evening of festive fun organised by Poole Tourism. This new event, sponsored by local company Jenkins Marine Ltd will see a range of activities taking place, including a visit from Santa himself, and the promise of winter snow.

The fun starts from 5.00pm when Santa’s elves will be in their workshop next to the Christmas tree helping to make, wrap and pack all the children’s presents ready for the big day. There will be opportunities for children to join in with colouring, face-painting and other have-a-go-activities, as well as passing on their written Christmas lists that can be posted in the special Christmas post-box.

Seasonal songs will also be sung around the Christmas tree during the evening by both a local brownie group and the Luminous choir, and to add to the atmosphere snow will gently fall over the singers and tree.

On the water a ‘flotilla of lights’ will parade along the Quay all lit up for Christmas, and prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed boats.

Santas arrival on Poole Quay

Santa will also be joining in the fun. The jolly man himself will arrive in his own carriage on the Poole Road Train around 7.00pm. He will meet the children and discuss their present wishes with them and for the under 10’s he will also have a sack full of goodies to share with the first 200 lucky boys and girls.

Poole Pottery link will open in new window are having a special Christmas promotion in the shop during the evening with 10% discount on all lines, and their master potter will be out on the Quay giving demonstrations and joining in the festive fun.

To keep parents warm, mulled wine, mince pies and roasted chestnuts will be available outside the Jolly Sailor public house, and the bars and restaurants along the Quayside will be offering a wide range of seasonal fare.

The evening will draw to a close when Santa waves goodbye to all as he departs on the Road Train at 8.00pm.
