Shopping for a good cause at Compton Acres
Over 300 eager shoppers descended on the Travelling Souk at Compton Acres in Poole, helping to raise funds for Life Education Dorset - an independent charity which helps over 42,000 children each year make healthy, informed life choices.
Attended by Lady Digby DBE DL, the charities Patron and sponsored by the garden attraction’s Italian Villa, the event saw over 30 stallholders showcasing unique and innovative collections of Fair Trade gifts sourced from across the globe.
Life Education Dorset is the only organisation that supports schools in meeting the national curriculum and government guidelines for health and drug education to children of primary school age. Using high tech mobile classrooms, fun-filled programmes and specially trained educators, they work with over 200 schools across Dorset every year.
Speaking at the event Lady Digby said:
“It’s hugely important that we work in the field of prevention when it comes to young children, there are so many dangers one has to warn them about. Through the work of Life Education Dorset every child in the county will know the dangers of drugs.”
Compton Acres owner, Kaye Merna, added:
“There was a great buzz across the whole day and as well as offering a totally unique and very sociable shopping opportunity it was for such a fantastic cause. It would seem guilt free shopping does exist!”
The Travelling Souk is a band of small businesses that travel to different intriguing and captivating private family venues and public events, simultaneously raising considerable amounts of money for many and varied charities.
