The Oceanarium's newest resident, a North Pacific giant octopus, has been named after Harry Houdini, arguably the greatest magician of all time.
Staff decided to name the octopus after the famous escapologist, because of the magical powers he possesses.
Set to be one of the star attractions during the Oceanarium's 'Trick or Treat Week' from October 25 to November 2, the eight-armed Houdini can change shape to squeeze through tubes and, like all masters of illusion, can modify his colour and texture to fade into his surroundings.
Houdini is one of many weird and wonderful creatures that will emerge from the watery depths this half term. Vampire triggerfish with orange fangs, bat fish, black phantom tetras and starfish that eject their stomachs to digest food outside their bodies, are all set to spook visitors brave enough to enter the Oceanarium.
Join Oceanarium hosts in 'Meet the Creepy Creature' sessions and come face to face with candy cane sea cucumbers, who vomit up their intestines to evade predators. Try edible grubs from the 'Witches Kitchen' and confront the 'Box of Horrors' to win a Halloween goody bag. On Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30, an owl, snake, spider and lizard from Liberty's Raptor and Reptile Centre will also be joining the spooky goings on.
There will also be special 'Trick or Treat' quiz trails, colouring competitions and the opportunity to get a fake tattoo to trick friends and relatives.
Activities vary throughout the week and are included in the standard admission prices. Please see www.oceanarium.co.uk
