Access & Equality Information for Visitors

The following information is designed to allow you to plan your holiday, so that you don't encounter the frustration that can sometimes result from a lack of local information.

Our friendly team at Poole Tourism Information Centre are on hand to offer assistance when it comes to planning your stay in Poole.  The Information Centre located in the foyer of Poole Museum offers ample room for a wheelchair to manoeuvre, plus a hearing loop, low level desks, automatic doors and magnifying glass reading aid.

Poole Quay is a great day out and accessible to all.   The nearest car park is the Quay Visitors which offers 6 designed spaces for disabled use.   There are further disabled spaces on Poole Quay, in front of the Custom House (near Thames Street) and opposite the Thistle Hotel offering free parking for up to 3 hours.  (with the exception of Event Days on the Quay).

Poole has a railway station, which is served by accessible taxi firm, PRC Streamline.  Book in advance by calling 01202 666333.

In addition the town boasts excellent bus routes, which can accommodate one wheelchair.

Sandbanks and Branksome Chine beach office have two beach accessible wheelchairs available to hire.   There are also four accessible beach huts at Sandbanks and Branksome Chine - please call the Beach Office 01202 708181 for further information.

Poole welcomes all visitors, and our popular Shopmobility Scheme helps to provide those who are less mobile with an opportunity to shop and get around at ease. The level areas of the High Street, Old Town and Quay compliment the warmth and comfort of the indoor Dolphin Shopping Centre where Shopmobility is located in the adjacent Kingland Road Car Park.

This information has been produced with the support and co-operation of local disabled persons groups, but we welcome your comments, so please let us know about any good or bad experiences during your visit where they concern accessibility or welcome.

Please note our regular harbour trips from Poole Quay are not covered by the Equalities Act so we would advise that you check with the boat operator whether you will be able to board.   If not, there are alternatives, which we hope will give you the enjoyment of seeing our beautiful harbour..

For further information on specialised holiday accommodation, leisure services, parking and transport for the less able visitors download your copy of The Access Guide to Poole located on the right hand side of this page.
