The Dorset Urban Food Project

What is the Dorset Urban Food Project?

The Dorset Urban Food project is a partnership of local private, public and voluntary sector organisations who have come together to support the development of the local food sector across Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. Working together the Partnership aims to reduce carbon emissions by providing new market opportunities for local food producers, developing and supporting short supply chains, and raising awareness amongst consumers of the benefits of buying local food.

Bournemouth and Poole is the world's first Sustainable Fish City

Sustainable Fish 2We asked businesses and organisations across the two towns to make a pledge and commit to only using sustainably sourced fish in their menus.  Despite hot competition from a number of other cities we have just received the prestigious five star Sustainable Fish City award.

Our pledgees include nearly all primary schools, leisure centres, theatres, Bournemouth Pavilion, large workplace restaurants, Bournemouth University, all major hospitals and some of the most iconic and best-loved restaurants including the Green House Hotel and Urban Reef. It is a truly extraordinary achievement which will have a huge impact on the local and national supply chain for fish as well as affecting over 3.6 million fish meals served in Bournemouth and Poole every year.

We're not stopping there mind you.  We want to get many more businesses signed up so start asking for sustainable fish everywhere you go.
