The Wilts and Dorset Bus Company serves the Poole area.  Tel: 01202 338420  www.morebus.co.uk Bus passengers in Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch can now enjoy unlimited daily travel on all the area's major bus operators thanks to a new travel card. The Getting About Card enables passengers to hop on and off of different buses for a day across the three towns without being restricted to one bus company's services.

The cards can be purchased from the driver on first bus passengers board and cost just £3.60 for children, £5.80 for adults and £14 for a family of two adults and two children.

Tickets can be used on all buses run by the major operators in the area including Wilts & Dorset (including More buses and Route ONE), Yellow Buses and First buses as well as smaller operators such as Damory Coaches, Gardbus and the Bournemouth Airport Shuttle Service.

Another good way to see the area is to buy an Explorer Anywhere ticket, which gives you unlimited travel on all Wilts and Dorset buses for any one day. They are valid on most Hampshire Bus and Solent Blue Line buses too.  If you are on holiday for the week, why not get a seven-day Busabout; you can visit Corfe Castle, Swanage, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Southampton, Winchester and many other places besides. 

Wilts and Dorset have now introduced the new More bus routes which are a smarter and quicker way of getting you around Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.  Buses between Poole and Bournemouth run every 5 minutes on the M1 and M2 Buses.

The majority of buses are "Low Floor" with spaces for wheelchairs and baby buggies. In partnership with the Borough of Poole, many bus stops are now fitted with electronic information displays which count down to the time of the next bus.

Alternatively why not enjoy a guided bus tour around the beautiful parts of Dorset with local company Discover Dorset .  Booking for these tours is essential. Discover Dorset pick up from Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch and also run a hotel service. Just choose a pick up point at time of booking.

Arriving by train? Ask for a Plusbus ticket. If you are arriving in Poole by train you can enjoy unlimited travel for the day on most local bus services with the Plus Bus ticket. Wilts & Dorset, Yellow Buses, First and the majority of smaller bus operators are included and you can hop on and off the buses all day with your rail Plusbus ticket. Passengers can travel over a wide area including not just Poole but also neighbouring towns of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Wimborne www.plusbus.info/poole

Route One
The number one way to get around Poole Town Centre is the Route ONE bus. The service runs Monday to Saturday from 7.25 am to 6.20 pm. Route ONE's buses run every 15 minutes during the day on a fast and convenient circular route.  Route ONE links all of Poole Town Centre's main attractions such as Poole Quay, Poole Park and The Dolphin Shopping Centre.  Route One costs  £1.80 per adult for a "Hop on, Hop off" ticket and £1.00 for a single ticket. Children tickets, £1.00 for a  "Hop on, Hop off" ticket and 60p for a single. Accompanied children under 7's free. Route ONE buses are fully wheelchair accessible and are also great for mums and dads with buggies.

Poole Lifting Bridge & Twin Sails


Please be aware that essential works to Poole Bridge are planned to start on 12 September 2016 for approximately nine months. The bridge will be closed to all road traffic, cyclists and pedestrians so all traffic will be diverted across Twin Sails Bridge. 

Poole Bridges Lifting Sequence: After the first bridge lift, the second will open as soon as possible. The first bridge will open again, if required, for returning vessles. See below for lifting times, 

Opens at half past the hour

05:30 - 14:30 Twin Sails Bridge opens first. Poole Bridge opens approx 15 mins later

15:30 - 23:30 Poole Bridge opens first. Twin Sails Bridge opens approx 15 mins later

08:30, 13:30, 17:30, 20:30

Ferry Port Traffic Tip: When the bridge is lifted, traffic to and from the Ferry Port can be affected, so always allow extra travelling time. If Poole Bridge is open use Twin Sails Bridge and if Twin Sails bridge is open use Poole Bridge.

Local Ferries & Boat Trips

Sandbanks to Studland Ferry - Bramble Bush Bay (the floating bridge) - Car and Passenger Ferry linking Poole and the Purbecks. From 0700am until 2300 hrs. approx every 20 mins. £3.80 per car and £1 for pedestrians and bikes. Daily service. Christmas Day runs on a half hourly service, leaving Sandbanks on the hour and half past and then from Shell bay 10 mins and 40 mins after the hour.  Tel: 01929 450203.
