Dolphin Shopping Centre EventsThe Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole is to host a cycling endurance event on Saturday July 2 to raise funds for local charity Waggy Tails Rescue.

Earlier this year the Dolphin Shopping Centre launched a year-long fundraising drive for Waggy Tails Rescue and, as part of this drive, a team of volunteers at the charity are set to don their cycling shorts and use pedal power in an attempt to complete a distance of 250km and raise worthwhile funds.

The 250km target relates to the number of dogs the charity re-homed in 2015 and the challenge will start at 10am. The team of volunteers will be joined by the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Xena Dion, who will be aiming to help the charity with its target distance.

Waggy Tails fundraiser, Paul Chapman, says: “We wish to thank the Dolphin Shopping Centre for hosting our forthcoming cycling endurance event.  Waggy Tails Rescue, which was started in 1994, performs a crucial role in saving the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs and has a policy of no euthanasia for any healthy dog. Even with very sympathetic vets, medical bills can run to the region of £6,000 per month in addition to feed and the cost of maintaining the rehoming centre.  Successful fund raising is therefore critical to enable Waggy Tails Rescue to maintain its proud record of savings thousands of dogs and other small animals.”

John Grinnell, centre manager of the Dolphin Shopping Centre, adds: “We would like to encourage the public to come along and support the charity’s volunteers and cheer them on.  We are working closely with Waggy Tails over the course of this year to generate as many funds and awareness as possible to support the amazing work it undertakes.”

Money will be raised on the day via a collection.  Alternatively people can donate at the JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wtrcyclingchallenge.
