The Dolphin Shopping Centre has partnered with the Borough of Poole and Table Tennis England to encourage shoppers to take part in a new hobby and will be offering a free ping pong parlour for six weeks from Monday June 13.

The centre will be giving shoppers the chance to play ping pong while they shop, with tables located in the unit upstairs on the balcony, opposite Hays Travel. It is hoped that shoppers, local businesses, retail staff and residents alike will take part.

Even though the ping pong tables will be available to play for free, donation pots will be positioned in the unit where people can donate to the shopping centre’s two chosen charities – Waggy Tails and Leaf.

Dolphin Shopping Centre manager John Grinnell said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for those with hidden talents to show friends, colleagues and competitors that they possess the skills to compete, while raising money for two local causes. The tables will be available in the centre for six weeks for people to enjoy and play a game while they shop, before work, during a lunch break or after work.”

Keely Armitt, adult participation manager for Table Tennis England said: “We have supported Ping Pong Parlours in many other towns and cities and they are always hugely popular with members of the public because they provide such a welcoming environment for people to play and socialise together, completely free of charge.”

Cllr Mohan Iyengar, cabinet portfolio holder for economy, leisure and culture, Borough of Poole, added: “For two very worthy causes, I hope a good number of shoppers pick up the bat and have a go!”
